Gala Coral Enters Talks with Playtech

Two of the world's leading brands have entered new discussions as members of the gaming industry look on with interest. The gambling giant Gala Coral – one of the most powerful names at work in the market – has entered talks with the renowned software provider Playtech. The discussion could see the latter supply the technology for the firm's comprehensive selection of online services which including classic casino titles as well as bingo and Sportsbetting facilities. Gala, which currently boasts ownership of the Coral bookmaking chain, has already made headlines this year following the completion of a complex refinancing move but is still hoping to tackle its remaining £2billion worth of debt.
The high profile deal arrives in the aftermath of Playtech's recent conflict with the bookmaker William Hill over the terms of their joint venture agreement. The bookie, which represents one of the biggest brands in the UK, sought an injunction to prevent the software provider from forging new alliances with rival operators such as Ladbrokes. A new agreement with Gala will, therefore, be most likely to take the form of a software supply contract rather than a joint venture deal.
Commenting on the possible collaboration, one industry expert noted that whilst Gala Coral "makes money on its online bingo", its sport betting branch "punches below its weight". Acknowledging Playtech's recent reconciliation with William Hill, the source went on to say that everything points towards an imminent a deal between Playtech and Gala. Gala representatives declined to comment on the speculations despite confessing plans for "internal reorganisation" in what looks to be a very critical year ahead.
