The right gaming domain name could mean the difference in millions of dollars in revenue, and this is something at the forefront of industry executives’ minds as thousands of web domain names go under the hammer in London this week.
Online gambling domain name marketplace GamblingInvest.com will hold an auction for 2,300 viable online addresses that will run until 2nd February. The auction is expected to create more interest than ever due to the news that legislators in New Jersey have passed legislation that could pave the way for the legalising of online gambling in the state. This in turn is expected to create a domino effect as other states pass laws legalising gambling. As companies begin to jostle for position in this new market place, the purchase of a solid keyword domain name is seen as a solid investment as the industry looks forward to the US opening its doors again to online gaming.
GamblingInvest.com has confirmed that there will be numerous US domain names available for purchase at the auction, including names like iGaming.us, BettingExchange.us and Picks.us.
Because the right domain name can make such a huge difference to the success of an online gaming site, companies are prepared to part with a small fortune to get the domain name they want. Websites such as Slots.com and Poker.org have made headlines recently when they recorded sales prices of $5.5m and $1m respectively. The generic domain gambling.com recently entered the marketplace again with a price tag of $10m.
Those with a smaller budget needn’t worry, as a spokesperson from GamblingInvest.com advised that there will be “many names at bargain prices with lots of potential for development.”
