The Asia Pacific Poker Tour was certainly an event for Simon Watt who took the coveted title at this year’s main event. Held in Auckland, the tournament (also known as the APPT) represents one of the most popular and competitive events of its kind and was met with great enthusiasm from poker enthusiasts across the glove.
Simon Watt, a New Zealander won the APPT event thereby ensuring that the celebrated trophy remains on home ground. Filled with pride for his tremendous achievement, Watt took the generous prize money worth an enormous $209,085 after he defeated his several opponent to scoop the trophy. At only 26 years of age, Watt has attracted media attention as one of the hottest poker talents around.
The final stage of the tournament saw Watt take on France;’ Gerome Guitteau in a nail-biting final table. Watt played bravely, spiking an Ace on the river in an attack on his opponent. Guitteau finally turned over a K(c)7(c) whilst Watt had pocket fives. The final board spread Q(h) 6(d) J(s) 9(d) J(c) which meant that the pockets held and Watt could be finally crowned as the winner. The next round of PokerStars.net APPT will leave Auckland and travel to Cebu located in the beautiful Philippines. Due to run between 11th and 15th November, the next stage is guaranteed to offer all the excitement of the earlier rounds.
